EECP may be considered as an option in conditions such as angina (chest pain), coronary artery disease, heart failure, and non-obstructive coronary artery disease (INOCA), particularly for patients with the following profiles: those experiencing recurring chest pain or pressure during physical activity or stress; those whose symptoms are not adequately controlled despite medication; patients who are not suitable candidates for surgery (such as bypass or angioplasty) or who prefer not to undergo these procedures; and patients who have previously had bypass, angioplasty, or stenting but whose symptoms have returned.
Certain health conditions limit or rule out eligibility for EECP. These include pregnancy, aortic regurgitation, atrial fibrillation, a history of blood clots, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe peripheral vascular disease, and bleeding disorders.
The lists above provide a general framework; however, eligibility for EECP can only be confirmed through an individual evaluation by a cardiologist. This evaluation typically includes: a review of your current heart condition and medical history; an assessment of your medications and previous treatments; and, if necessary, additional tests (such as an ECG or echocardiogram).
If you'd like a quick preliminary idea about your own situation, you can use our short assessment test and then request an appointment with our cardiology team. This assessment step is important for making the right decision before undergoing EECP treatment in Cyprus.
