The EECP Treatment Process: Step by Step From Initial Assessment to Recovery

How does the process work, from applying for EECP treatment to completing it? On this page, we explain every step in detail — from the initial assessment and what a session involves, to its effect on daily life and the follow-up process.

At EECP Cyprus, the treatment process is planned specifically around each patient's heart condition. The standard program runs 5 days a week, 1 hour a day, for 35 sessions over approximately 7 weeks in total. Throughout the process, Prof. Dr. Osman Beton and our clinical team closely monitor your treatment and can update the plan whenever needed.

1

Initial Consultation and Application

The process begins with a short initial application by phone or through the "Is EECP Right for Me?" test on our website. At this stage, we gather basic information about your current symptoms, your history of heart treatments (such as bypass surgery, a stent, or a previous heart attack, if any), and your general health.

2

Medical Evaluation

Following an examination by Prof. Dr. Osman Beton, your heart function and suitability for EECP are assessed, with tests such as an ECG, echocardiography, and an exercise test carried out as needed. This stage is critical for planning your treatment safely and effectively.

3

A Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on the results of your assessment, the number and frequency of sessions and the cuff pressure levels are planned specifically for you. Your treatment plan can be readjusted as needed based on how you respond throughout the process.

4

EECP Sessions (35 Sessions / 7 Weeks)

The standard treatment program consists of a total of 35 sessions, 5 days a week, 1 hour a day. In each session, cuffs are wrapped around your legs and treatment is applied in sync with your heart rhythm. Rest days between sessions help your body adapt to the treatment.

5

Follow-Up and Evaluation

After treatment is completed, a follow-up appointment is scheduled to evaluate your progress. Changes in your symptoms, your exercise capacity, and your overall quality of life are reviewed together, and additional sessions may be recommended if needed.

THE SESSION EXPERIENCE

What Happens During an EECP Session?

Preparation
You lie down on the clinic bed in comfortable clothing. Cuffs are placed around your calves, thighs, and hips, and ECG electrodes are attached to your chest.
The 60-Minute Session
The device reads your ECG and inflates and deflates the cuffs in sync with your heart rhythm. During this time, you can rest, listen to music, or even sleep.
After the Session
Once the cuffs are removed, you can leave the clinic right away and continue with your daily activities, work, or driving. No anesthesia or recovery time is required.

DAILY LIFE

How Is Your Daily Life Affected During Treatment?

One of the biggest advantages of EECP is that it doesn't interrupt your daily life. Since it involves no anesthesia or surgery, there's no need to wait around after a session — you can go to work, drive, and continue your normal activities. Many of our patients prefer to fit their treatment program around their work or daily routine, so we take care to schedule your appointments at times that suit you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions About the Treatment Process

Is it mandatory to complete all 35 sessions?

For the best results, completing the standard 35-session program is recommended. However, your treatment plan can be personalized based on your doctor's assessment.

Should I take sessions consecutively or with breaks in between?

The standard protocol recommends taking sessions 5 days in a row each week; rest days (such as weekends) are built into the program and help your body adapt to the treatment.

What happens if I miss a session?

Missing a single session generally doesn't disrupt your treatment plan; our clinical team can rearrange your schedule for you. Attending as regularly as possible is recommended.

Can I continue taking my medications during treatment?

Yes. EECP does not replace the medication your doctor has prescribed; you should not change or stop your medications without consulting your doctor.

When can I start treatment?

Once your initial assessment and tests are complete, treatment can begin shortly afterward if deemed appropriate. Simply contact us to schedule an appointment.
