Preparing for EECP Treatment: Patient Guide

Before Your Appointment: What to Bring

If available, bring your previous cardiology reports, ECG and echocardiography results; a current list of your medications (with names and doses); information about any previous heart interventions (such as stent, bypass, or angioplasty); and your insurance information (if applicable). This information helps our cardiology team carry out the evaluation more quickly and accurately.

What Should You Wear?

EECP sessions are performed while dressed; however, since the cuffs make direct contact with the legs, comfortable, loose-fitting pants or sweatpants are recommended. Avoiding clothing such as thick-seamed jeans improves comfort during the session.

What Happens on Session Day?

In the first session, ECG electrodes and a pulse sensor are placed first, followed by the cuffs being wrapped around your legs. The device begins operating in sync with your heart rhythm. The session lasts approximately one hour; during this time, you can rest lying down, read a book, or listen to music.

Dietary Recommendations

It is recommended to avoid a very heavy meal right before a session. Drinking water does not interfere with the session. Clarify with your cardiology team whether you should take any medications on the day of your session — do not make changes to your medication use without your treatment team's approval.

Daily Life Between Sessions

Since EECP is an outpatient treatment, you can drive yourself home after a session and continue with most of your daily activities.
